Taunus is a mountain range in Hesse and is often used to refer to the surrounding areas to the north of Frankfurt. It is also what some might consider to be ‘the burbs’…popular areas include (but are not limited to) Kronberg, Bad Soden & Oberursel
Oberursel proves a popular choice for families with children attending FIS (Frankfurt Internation School) of course work location may need to be taken into account too when choosing a place to live. Oberursel also serves as somewhat of a gateway for hikers and mountain bikers alike with it’s proximity so close to many of the mountain trails. If hiking isn’t your bundle, Oberursel’s Altstadt proves to be quite charming too and is a far less strenuous activity! Oberursel is served by ubahn and sbahn.
Kronberg is known to be one of the more expensive areas to live when moving outside of Frankfurt. Saying that it is very popular with families and has good amenities and a sbahn (s4) into the city. You’ll find Opel Zoo just on the outskirts too.
Bad Soden is a Spa town on the outskirts of Frankfurt and is also an area very popular with families
