Grüne Soße – synonymous with state of Hessen and of course Frankfurt. Furthermore, love for the sauce runs deep on the streets of Frankfurt as can be seen with an entire festival dedicated to it.
A Competition for Frankfurt’s Best Green Sauce runs over the duration of the festival. How it works:
‘A total of 49 Hessian restaurateurs demonstrate their skills in preparing the 7 herbs over 7 days. The different green sauce variations are tasted by 650 guests per evening in the festival tent on the Roßmarkt. In keeping with the Hessian tradition, eggs and potatoes are served, and a free selection of drinks is also available. At the end of the evening, the voting cards are drawn out and the audience chooses the “best green sauce” of the evening. The 7 day winners finally compete against each other in the grand finale and the guests choose the overall winner of the festival.’
